Insight, Hope, Inspiration & Encouragement…
You were born.
You grew up.
Along the way you’ve developed a view or yourself, others, and the world in general. This “worldview” informs you and guides your decision making. It affects how and with whom you relate. It drives your self-concept, the goals you’ve chosen for yourself, and pretty much everything else about how you live.
“Is this all there is to life?”
“I’m afraid of being isolated, but I’m also afraid that people will reject me.”
“I sometimes have feelings that I don’t understand.”
“I’m tired of losing my cool or feeling bad so much of the time.”
“I hate my job, but I feel stuck because I don’t feel confident enough to make a change.”
“I keep having relationships that don’t work out.”
Any of this sound familiar? Then group therapy is an excellent choice for you!
Group therapy is like individual therapy on steroids.
The added element of “others” can drive insight and progress more easily and quickly than when working one-on-one with a therapist.
You’ll meet others. They’ll share. You’ll consider how what they share relates to you. Maybe you’ll give feedback or share a comment. Maybe you won’t. Then others will do the same.
But what will definitely happen is insight – insight into other humans and yourself – insight into how we think, feel, and behave across infinite and unbound topics and situations. And others will get insight from you, too!
When you do share, which I’m quite sure you will, you become part of the dynamic – a living, evolving, fluid dynamic designed by and carried forth by those present in the group… all of whom have had similar and sometimes not-so-similar experiences. This is what makes group therapy so cool!
The wonderful things you WON’T find in group therapy…
No topic is off limits.
Anything and everything can be addressed. The only limitations are the ones you impose.
No judgment.
Sure, you talk to your friends and family about this stuff. Think they don’t form opinions and treat you differently because of what you say? Think again.
We often limit what we share with those closest to us, because we are programmed to avoid negative judgment, whether we realize it or not.
No compulsion to speak.
Sometimes it’s therapeutic to simply listen and learn from others. Our worldview changes in this manner, too!
No agenda other than getting out of it what you’d like.
My groups are open-ended, which means you start when you’re ready and stop when you’ve achieved what you wanted. You can address what you want, when you want.
There are only two conditions for doing group therapy…
Confidentiality and respect.
What’s said in group… stays in group.
One of the things that distinguishes a therapy group from a coffee klatch or a boat outing with your buds is that all group participants are screened before being admitted to ensure that the group is suited to their needs and that their participation will contribute to a mutually beneficial and supportive environment for all.
Because discretion and privacy are critical to the success of a therapy group, all members take a pledge of confidentiality, agreeing that information shared during sessions is kept private and never discussed outside of the group setting.
For the group to be a safe place to explore ourselves and our relationships with others, it is important to have an environment of mutual respect.
Respect refers to the way in which we talk to one another and how we navigate the way our values and biases impact our ability to be supportive of one another. While learning how to respectfully disagree with one another is highly valued, it is expected that any disagreements will be handled in a respectful way.
Take advantage of this affordable opportunity!
At $40 each 90-minute session, group therapy is a bargain. When purchasing an initial bundle of five sessions for $160, getting started is an outright steal!
In my therapy groups, you can learn so much about yourself, your worldview and how it’s been driving you. It is truly fascinating to be a part of the dynamic process! Don’t take my word for it, though. Give me a call today, and I will answer any questions you have.
Let’s talk about what therapy groups I currently have running and how one can be of help to you.
